Cap Stone Industries - Installation TechniquesRETAINING WALLS:
Dry Stack – This is the easiest and fastest installation technique. Once the area is designed, the stones are simply stacked on top of each other making sure that there are staggered joints. Depending on the height of the wall, mortar mix may be used to anchor the ends. Some installations are purposely designed with a complete mortar setting.
Re-enforced Stack – This installation technique requires the use of landscape mesh that is put in place prior to stacking the stones. This is typically used when the design calls for a multi-tiered retaining wall.
Re-enforced Drainage Stack – This installation technique is the most expensive and time-consuming. Not only is landscape mesh put it place to provide more stable support, but drainage pipes and pea rock are put behind the wall to allow for additional drainage. Prior to backfilling the stone wall, the pea rock is set in place approximately 6-8” thick to allow for better drainage.
WALKWAYS, DRIVEWAYS & POOL DECKS:
Typically, the installation of this stone for walkways, driveways and pool decks follows the same techniques and guidelines that are used for pavers and other natural stones. The stone can be dry set over a sand base with no grout joints, a colored grout or mortar base, or even the rustic look of grass as a grout joint.
FINISHING:
It is recommended that the stone is pressure cleaned, acid washed and then sealed when the installation is complete. This will allow the natural beauty and colors of the stone to become more apparent.
